  Fishing Report

The morning felt like Fall might really be near, though later in the afternoon it was up in the 90's. The seas were flat to begin with, but the wind picked up a little, giving us some three footers, maybe. It was out of the northwest, against the tide, making for a slow drift, which combined with the dirty water from recent lake pumping & runoff, made us work for our fish.

There were, however, six experienced people fishing, & we all got our share. It was good to see Doc again, after a long absence, as well as Evelyn, who hasn't fished in quite a spell either. Those two joined Jimmy Lee, Bill, Denzil & yours truly. Denzil had the biggest fish, by far, with a 30 pound class barracuda that ate a snapper he was reeling in. Jimmy Lee got two of the three ocean tallies that were caught, & Bill caught the only legal trigger. Evelyn got not one, but two Bermuda chubs. Rod benders both, but no good to eat. Everybody caught some yellowtails, & a couple of us got a mangrove snapper.
The first drop produced a half dozen or so lane snappers.

We also accounted for several decent size blue runners, which I will smoke & make fish dip out of for my office & for next Friday night's fishing trip.

~~Greg~~

Reservations confirmed. BatBreath and Sherrie Carrie will be heading down to the Sunshine State for a short visit at the end of November. We arrive in Orlando in the PM of Nov. 25th. Harass the natives with stupid tourist questions ( Where does Mickey live? When is the next hurricane? ) for five days and then get out of town on the morning of Dec.2nd.

This gives us just 5 days to see EVERYTHING!

I am negotiating with the Warden for two days off to go fishing. Probably visit Mickey, Universal and the Space Center the other days Ps-- She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed wants to know where the best shopping is and where they take the Canuck buck at par!!!!!! Wink

I am open to suggestions --- more to come. Its gonna be a shock as Fl has about 1/2 the population of the whole of Canada!

  Tahsis report
Posted by: Zane - 09-22-2006, 02:15 PM - Forum: GreenGrouper - Replies (2)

Sad It is time for the last major fishing report of the Salmon (read Tahsis, BC) fishing season. My good friend batman breath bailed out on going up with me. He had some phony excuse about moving his mother-in-law. I took Mike (my fire chief), John (Mike’s friend from Palm Springs, Calif.) and my oldest son. Mike and John are both from the California desert and I am sure that they have not seen 8-10’ ocean swells beforeRolleyes . My son was an Alaska king crabber and is probably tougher than I am. Needless to say, the first three days of fishing were inside as the wind was howling and the seas were quite rough. Each morning we would make the twenty mile run to the ocean and get turned back to fish the protected waters. Fishing inside of Esperanza inlet was slow and we were scratching to get a few fish. The first salmon of the trip was about a 14# Coho that had barely made it halfway towards the boat Sad when a seal stole it off the line. That resulted in a few choice words such as darn, isn’t he cute, and where is my .357 when I need it? Over the first three days we were able to land four Coho, a 20 + king and a whopper 34# king.
The last day of the trip on Friday, we made our run out the inlet and the ocean was fairly flat and we were able to get out about ten miles. The desert guys got to see whales, dolphin, sea otters and a few bent rods. Friday count was four kings to 20#, one Coho 15# and four ling cod to 20#. The Bradley smoker has been working overtime. There are some new pictures on the spaces site.

Your email jokes have been amiss lately. Let me know if I can help get that old computer of yours fixed - assuming that's why we haven't heard from you in awhile.

I have a chance to get on one of those last minute deals. I know Florida is a big state but does anyone have any advice about the Orlando area this time of year? What is the driving time to the coast? Saltwater fishing in November any good?

Help!!!
